This tutorial uses screenshots and preferences from Mail in Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger". Other versions should be very similar.
When Mail is started for the first time, the user is presented with a welcome screen and fields for several items of information. Fill out the fields as shown below. The user name should be your Chemistry account name; use the accompanying password. (You can choose either POP or IMAP as the account type. If you want to learn more about thie difference between these protocols, please visit the CSR office.)
After completing the fields on the first screen, you should arrive in your mailbox. Select "File > Preferences" and click on the Accounts icon at the top of the screen. You can change your settings here at any time if necessary. If you have (or may someday have) multiple email accounts, you may wish to change "Description" to something like "Chemistry Email".
After making any desired changes, click on the button that says "Server Settings..." towards the bottom of the window. These are preferences for sending outgoing mail. Modify the fields so they match the settings below, substitutin your chemistry account name and password.
Click OK in that window after making the changes, then click on the tab labeled "Advanced" and make your setting match the ones shown below. You should only have to change the Authentication menu option. You should now be ready to send and receive email.
