Chemistry Minor

Minor Requirements

1. Select one of the following options:

Either these three courses

Chem 111H Honors Principles of Chemistry 4.0
Chem 112 Principles of Chemistry 3.0
Chem 113 Introductory Inorganic Laboratory 3.0

Or these four courses

Chem 105 General College Chemistry 4.0
Chem 106 General College Chemistry 3.0
Chem 107 General College Chemistry Lab 1.0
Chem 223 Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis 4.0

2. Select one of the following options:

Either three courses

Chem 351 Organic Chemistry 3.0
Chem 352 Organic Chemistry 3.0
AND one of the following
Chem 353 Organic Chemistry Lab - Nonmajors 2.0
OR
Chem 354 Organic Chemistry Lab - Majors 2.0

Or these four courses

Chem 461 Physical Chemistry 3.0
Chem 462 Physical Chemistry 3.0
Chem 464 Physical Chemistry Lab 1.0
Chem 465 Physical Chemistry Lab 2 1.0

Note:

When all of the chemistry credit required for a minor is transferred from another school, at least one course in chemistry must be taken at BYU with a grade of C or better--or the student may request to take a standardized national exam covering advanced material required for the minor. Chemistry programs at some schools have been evaluated, and their credit is acceptable for the minor. No more than one course with a grade in the D range will be allowed.
