The ability of our students to succeed at research depends on their having the tools they need. The Chemistry and Biochemistry department at BYU has state of the art equipment in support of our research program. The new Ezra Taft Benson Science Building is a 190,000-square-foot, $30-million building that includes state-of-the-art facilities for all of the department's teaching and research functions and provides room for us to grow into the 21st century. For analysis the department provides NMR, mass spectrometry and X-ray crystallography, ICP atomic emission spectroscopy, and surface analysis (XPS, ToF - SIMS, and TEM). Individual research groups maintain specialized equipment to support their own research. Feel free to browse our list of equipment to learn more about our research capabilities.
