Have you ever had a burning question about the stockroom that you never had the courage to ask? Well, try reading our short FAQ list to see if your question is here. Any questions not answered on this page can be answered by contacting us at the stockroom.
A. The Nicholes Building used to be its own, separate place on campus, just south of the Eyring Science Center. When the Benson Building was built in 1995, the Nicholes Building was joined to it on the northeast end. This was done for a couple of reasons, the main one being that the NICB was built primarily for chemical storage and safety, and that to eliminate the building was just not deemed necessary since the facility already existed. To get to the NICB from the inside of the BNSN, walk to the north end of the main corridor on either the first or second floor...you'll run right into it. In addition to the Central Stockroom, the NICB houses the chemistry business office, the instrument shop, a physics lab, and a few offices for the mathematics department.
A. Every once in a while, generally at the end of a semester, the stockroom managers need to hire on a few new people, usually due to the graduation of employees. When this happens, signs are posted around the main floor of the Nicholes building with contact information. A potential employee needs to have completed Chem 111 and 112, or 105, 106, and 107. Applying for a position generally consists of filling out a detailed application, and then meeting with the stockroom managers for an interview. Responsible people who interact well and have fun with others are highly sought after!
A. We have a brand new suggestion box (revolving razor-sharp teeth included), which coincidentally looks a lot like a paper shredder. If you have any suggestions, write them down and deposit them in the box. The whirring noise is normal.
