Webmail Actions

Viewing the message list

The message list shows you the messages in a particular folder. Generally, this list will only show a portion of your messages at a time. You can see more message by clicking the arrow buttons at the bottom right of the message list. You can set how many messages you see at a time in the message list by editing your preferences.

Moving Messages

From the message list view, click on a message to select it. It should be red. Then drag and drop the message into the folder in which you want to move it. See a short movie demonstrating how to do this

Selecting Multiple Messages

Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard while clicking on messages with your mouse to select multiple messages. Use the Shift key while clicking to select a range of messages.

Opening a message

Double click on the subject of the message. If you click on the name of the sender of the message, you will start composition of a new email to the sender.

Deleting messages

You can delete a message by moving a message to the Trash folder. (See moving messages above). You can also select a message and press the delete icon. You can delete multiple message at a time by selecting multiple messages.

Searching

There is a search box just above the message list. To search messages, simply type in your search term into the box and press enter. You will be presented with a list of results. To return to your full list of messages, press the https://secure.chem.byu.edu/mail/skins/default/images/icons/reset.gif icon next to the search box.

Search scope

By default your search term will search the subject and sender fields. To search the entire bodies of your email messages, prefix your search query with body:. For example, if I want to search my messages for the word, "mail", I would type, body:mail.
