Josh Andersen is head of the Fritz B. Burns Cancer Research Laboratory. He received his B.S. in Genetics at BYU, a Ph.D. in Molecular Virology at University of Utah and was an NIH and American Cancer Society postdoctoral fellow and assistant professor at Duke University. His training focused on using biochemical, molecular and proteomics approaches to dissect the mechanisms that cells use to cope (or fail to cope) with stress. He started his lab at BYU in January of 2013 as an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry. When not in the lab, he enjoys Utah’s mountains and desert with his wife and three children.

Katie Pennington received her MS from Yale and PhD from Brandeis University. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher in our lab using proteomics and molecular tools to elucidate dynamic stress-induced changes in the 14-3-3z interactome that mediate tumor cell survival.

Tsz Yin Chan is a PhD student. She has used 14-3-3z interactomics to identify novel protein phosphorylations, downstream of HER2, that govern the survival and chemotherapeutic response of HER2+ breast cancer cells.

Ashari Kananngara is a PhD student. She uses CRISPR/Cas9 approaches to dissect the mechanism of Atg9A phosphorylation and its impact on tumor growth.

Email: asharirashmi@gmail.com

Colten McEwan is a PhD student in the lab using proteomics and molecular approaches to understand the regulation of Atg9A in autophagy.

B.S. Music, BYU-Idaho

Jonard Valdoz is a PhD student researching the molecular mechanisms by which 14-3-3z promotes tumor cell adaptation to receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors.

email: jcvaldoz@up.edu.ph

Eranga Roshan is a PhD student working on mechanisms of SOD1 regulation in tumor cell survival.

email: eranga114@gmail.com

Daniel Poole is a PhD student focusing on protein-protein interactions that control Atg9A activity and autophagy.

email: dpoole490@gmail.com

Misael Lazaro is an undergraduate researcher working on mechanisms of Atg9A regulation and autophagy.

Laura Oh is an undergraduate research majoring in Molecular Biology. Her project focuses on DNA cloning efforts to help understand the regulation and biological roles of SOD1.

Logan Larsen is an undergraduate researcher working on mechanisms of breast tumor cell adaptation to clinical HER2 inhibitors

Kristina Kohler is an undergraduate student whose project focuses on using confocal imaging to understand the mechanisms of Atg9A regulation in autophaghy.

Logan Nielsen is an undergraduate researcher majoring in Neuroscience. His Project focuses on DNA cloning efforts to help understand the regulation of SOD1.

Alex Thornock is an undergraduate researcher focusing on mechanisms of Atg9A regulation and autophagy.

Bennet Peterson is an undergraduate researcher majoring in Molecular Biology. He uses confocal imaging to understand the effect of specific protein-protein interactions on Atg9A functions in autophagy.
