How to Change Degree Program

Students who wish to change their degree program must follow the procedure outlined below:

1. To change from the MS to the PhD program, a student must apply through the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Graduate Admissions Committee. The following materials must be provided to the Graduate Program Manager (C101 BNSN):

      a.  A written request prepared by the student which includes a brief statement of professional goals (Letter of Intent).

      b. A letter of recommendation from the chair of the student’s MS faculty advisory committee.

The student will be informed of the decision in a formal letter from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Graduate Coordinator.

2. For transfer from the PhD to the MS program, the following materials should be addressed to the Graduate Waivers Committee and submitted to the Graduate Program Manager:

    a. A written request prepared by the student which includes a brief statement of professional goals (Letter of Intent).

    b. A letter of recommendation from the chair of the student’s PhD faculty advisory committee.

The student will be informed of the decision in a formal letter from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Waivers Committee. Copies of these formal responses will also be sent to the student’s faculty advisory committee, and placed in the student’s file. When a change in degree program is approved by the department, the Graduate Program Manager will submit the required forms to Graduate Studies.
