National Chemistry Week 2020: Sticking with Chemistry Posted: Oct 16, 2020

Oct. 16, 2020

National Chemistry Week (NCW) takes place next week!

NCW is an awareness program held by the American Chemical Society (ACS). This annual program endeavors to unite and educate chemistry students, teachers, scholars, professionals, amateurs, and general fanatics in regards to the importance chemistry plays in our quality of life. NCW occurs on the third week of October each year, and it's just about that time of year again.

While COVID-19 restricts many of the Department's usual NCW celebrations, the annual magic show has been released on the website page here. Plus, click here to access the ACS website, which boasts a selection of fun ideas for celebrating National Chemistry Week at home; or, click here to find a virtual National Chemistry Week event held by the ACS.

Some of our personal favorite activity ideas for celebrating at home this week are:

- create flubber (a polymer)

- make slime at home

- make glue at home

- build a baking soda volcano

- go stargazing

We're sad we're unable to celebrate next week with you in person . . . but we're excited to celebrate at home, and we hope you're able to celebrate at home, too!
