Brigham Young University’s 2020 University Conference shone a light on exciting success.
The BYU Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry particularly has reason to be proud of its faculty. A huge congratulations—and thank-you—to the following beloved teachers!
Stacey J. Smith: Early Career Teaching Award
In recognition of her remarkably strong student ratings, her devotion to the research and publications of her students, and her contributions to the Chemistry Department at large by managing the X-ray diffraction facility, instructor Stacey Smith has been awarded the Early Career Teaching Award. This award symbolizes outstanding achievement in teaching by professors whose careers are still in their fledgling years.

Scott R. Burt: Karl G. Maeser Professional Faculty Excellence Award
It’s in the name of his award: for excellence in his management and improvement of BYU’s nuclear magnetic resonance facility as well as his first-rate work in mentoring students, instructor Scott Burt has been distinguished with the Karl G. Maeser Professional Faculty Excellence Award, which seeks to recognize lofty accomplishment in professional and faculty responsibilities.

Paul B. Savage: University Professorship Award
Senior faculty member Paul Savage’s record includes the authoring of more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, development and testing of multiple original biomedical products, and student ratings that figure among the most complimentary in the Chemistry Department. He has been awarded the the University Professorship award for his excellency in scholarship, teaching, and university citizenry.
