We wish to highlight Behnam Moeini for his achievements! He won two separate awards from the Society of Vacuum Coaters Foundation: the SVC travel ship award to the SVC 2022 conference and the John B. Fenn, Sr. Foundation Endowed Scholarship ($2500).

Dr. Richard Watt, who has a deep love for both chemistry and his students, has been selected as the 2021 General Education Professorship Recipient.
In light of receiving this recognition, he will also be featured at the GE Inspired Teaching Workshop in February.

BYU PhD candidate Sara Soleimani received the Young Scientist award at the 71st American Crystallographic Association summer conference, held virtually this year July 30 – August 5. This honor is part of the Margaret C. Etter Student Lecturer awards and winners are selected by elected officers of the Scientific Interest Group.

Erik Hicken finished his schooling at BYU in 2005 after receiving his degree in Organic Chemistry and working in Dr. Merritt Andrus’ lab. Of his experience at BYU he remembered, “I got a breadth of experience which has really set me up for success going forward… It was a great place to work.” In Andrus' lab he was able to begin his years of cancer-related research, including studies in the total synthesis of geldanamycin.

Balancing studies and athletics is never an easy feat, let alone becoming an Olympian.
Josue Dominguez Ramos, a biochemistry major from the department, recently participated in the Tokyo Olympics. Dominguez Ramos not only holds three BYU records, but holds eight records in the Dominican Republic. Awards night this year may have been different from previous years, but it surely didn’t disappoint.
Students, faculty, and administrators gathered on April 14th, 2021 for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry annual awards night- only this year it was different than most, due to current COVID-19 restrictions in the state of Utah.
